The company was founded on the fundamental understanding that legacy information systems do not have the agility that health plans require to respond quickly to a complex and evolving healthcare environment.

ikaSystems is a member of The ikaGroup, companies that have been providing software solutions and consulting services to Fortune 500 companies in the commercial, government, telecommunications, insurance and financial sectors since 1992. The history of the company has been one of consistently rapid growth and remarkable innovation.

Entrepreneur Ravi Ika founded ikaSystems in 1999. Recognizing a pressing need in the payer industry, Mr. Ika and his team conducted in-depth research into the business processes of over 100 health plans across the country, then focused ikaSystems on developing innovative enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions that would address the industry’s growing demand for automation, transparency, reduced administrative and medical care expenses, and more accurate and precise medical intelligence. In 2002, the company launched ikaPortals, allowing health plan members, providers, sales staff/brokers, employers and health plan administrative staff to not just access information but also “self-service” via the Web.

In 2004, ikaSystems acquired Minnesota-based DataMedica, which brought systems for physician profiling (developed in 1990), HEDIS reporting (developed in 1992) and claims processing and management (developed in 1994) to ikaSystems. In 2005, all systems were integrated and transitioned to a .NET platform to form the ikaEnterprise product suite. More modules were added over time, forming the first complete Web-based technology platform for commercial, Medicare and Medicaid payers.

In 2007, ikaSystems won a prestigious Gartner Healthcare Innovation Award, followed by a HealthITinsight Award. In 2008, a unique partnership with ikaGroup company Government Works, a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) contractor, enabled the introduction of ikaMedicareGateway, which automates Medicare eligibility verification and enrollment/membership/payment reconciliation. In late 2009, ikaSystems again won a Healthcare IT Innovation award, and the company announced an investment partnership with Providence Equity Partners LLC, a global private equity firm managing over $22 billion.

Today, ikaSystems continues to revolutionize the exchange of information among insurance carrier trading partners, brokers and agents, benefit administrators, members and healthcare providers, working closely with its client partners to deliver systems that are highly effective in reducing administrative, medical and information technology expenses while improving the quality of care.
