ikaSystems’ Individual Sales Portal, part of our comprehensive suite of ikaPortals, is a simple-to-use yet highly functional answer for plans looking to boost sales of their individual products and services. The Individual Sales Portal provides both direct and broker-assisted selling via the Internet. A prospective member may go directly to the plan’s branded Web site to “shop” for products and view rates, or a broker can initiate the process on behalf of a prospect.

Prospective members (or their brokers) use the Individual Sales Portal to view plan options, select a plan and begin filling out an online application form. Plan-specific validations are built in to the application form, minimizing the entry of inaccurate or incomplete information. Medicare applicants also benefit from tailored functionality, such as CMS Chapter 2 validations.

Once the application form and a health risk questionnaire are filled out, payment information is supplied, and the application is e-signed and submitted — at the click of a button — the Individual Sales Portal assigns debit points and presents a final decision. The system can also recommend alternative plans that best suit the prospect’s needs. Prospects can view the benefits of up to three quotes side by side, which significantly eases the decision-making process.

And adding family members to the mix is just as easy. Prospects — now members — can even print temporary ID cards if a health plan chooses to implement this feature. ikaSystems clients have seen the entire process — from quote to card — take just minutes. Compare this to manual processes — days or even weeks can pass while your potential new member waits for a final decision.

Minimizing and Better Allocating Health Plan Resources

With the Individual Sales Portal’s comprehensive functionality, allowing consumers and brokers to “self-serve,” health plan administrative costs are significantly reduced. The manual data entry required to process cases and make decisions is kept to the barest minimum for health plan staff. Billing information is automatically set up for invoicing, and the sales team can easily identify the most productive marketing campaigns for individual members. The Individual Sales Portal also allows sales to track where applicants are in the process and to avoid the endless manual hand offs and phone calls.

In addition, ikaSystems can fully automate the underwriting process using our proprietary rating engine and a plan’s specific business process flows and rules, or we can automate any piece of the process — the decision is entirely up to the plan. The Individual Sales Portal can:
  • Perform medical underwriting and community rating based on a commercially available medical debit point system or the health plan’s own home-grown debit points system
  • Automatically approve, deny, pend and flag applications
  • Group applications into pre-defined categories for review by underwriters
  • Allow underwriters to override the system when appropriate
